Course Description:

This course is another in a series of the Digital Classroom and designed for teachers to continue improving and learning new digital strategies for the classroom. It will also expose teachers to trending technologies that will support and enhance online classroom instruction.  The course will focus on the topic of artificial intelligence for teachers and in the classroom. Through purposeful planning, teachers can improve digital student engagement and success. 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Research artificial intelligence in the educational setting, including a book study.
  2. Examine trending best practices for using artificial intelligence tools in the classroom.
  3. Utilize AI tools as part of lesson planning and delivery.
  4. Train students to use AI appropriately.

Learning Experiences and Outcomes:

The Teacher will present, demonstrate and model the various tools, as well as facilitate guided and experiential practice.  Group discussion will also be utilized to analyze the tools.  Ultimately, students will produce their own products of each of the types of resources. Assignments will include:

  1. Book Study Discussion Forums (80 points)

Students will read AI for Educators by Matt Miller and participate in discussion forums about the use of artificial intelligence.

  1. AI Tools (70 points)

Students will evaluate various AI tools and share a presentation of their applications.

  1. Final Project: AI with the SAMR Model (50 points)

Students will create a final project to demonstrate how they will incorporate AI in their classroom: substitution, augmentation, modification, redefinition.

  2. AI tools: chatbots, visual and design tools, lesson design and content creation tools, teaching aides, quiz and assessment generators, collaboration and communication tools
  3. Students in an AI world
  4. AI strategies for educators using the SAMR model
